I have 10 large slate shingles that are roughly 12" x 24" that were on a church in Portsmouth NH from 1826 when the church was built until 2021, when the roof was replaced. They are quite worn, of course. I am going to attempt to make a clock with at least one of them, painting a design and installing a clock kit. I just don't want to crack these old shingles, with each varying in thickness from 3/8" on one end to about 1/4" on the other. This gives me confidence that I can do it without incident. Apparently, the saw pattern suggests they came from a Welsh quarry and, if so, were probably used as ballast for a ship crossing the Atlantic. They are heavy, so figuring out how to safely hang it will be an interesting problem, too.

For the average person - just find your longest straight edge kitchen knife. Stand the mattress up on its side. You’ll wanna cut the “stiffer” side foam (the bottom of the mattress) first. Just take the knife and SCORE (dont saw back and forth) all the way down - as far as you can get without struggling . Do that 3 or 4 times, each time the knife will cut deeper. Once you get a little more than half way though - goto the other side of the mattress and bend it slightly to open up the cut you just made. Follow the cut you just made to start the knife down - and NOW saw the knife back and forth - using your free hand above the knife to push the 2 half’s of the mattress apart. Went you get to the bottom thats not fully cut - just spread the half’s apart - the foam will tear. You can cut a queen size mattress down into 8 pieces in like 5 minutes with minimal clean up. Just keep cutting the half’s in half.

was there ever an update to this? I have a small tent i want to start to grow cucumber in.. this one looks awesome & I'd love to see how it turned out Edit: 4 weeks later & I bit the bullet. I've bought some tubs to try this. I've been having so much fun with my tent! It's so fun looking at the plants growing each day & how healthy they look. At the moment I have chillies, cherry tomato, thai basil growing in my tent & I put some flower seedlings in too that i'll put in my front yard, I'm having so much fun even just with the seedling phase of things lol I ended up buying a 2x4 tent which came yesterday 8 days early, I'm so excited! I do have a light I planned on using but I don't know if it will be strong enough, I think for some of the greens it will but maybe not for cucumber.. but I'm a beginner so not sure. So when I can save a bit more money I will buy a nicer light for the tent. I got some tubs yesterday & some condensed foam that I will cut to size and use as lids for mine I'm waiting for some net cups to arrive & need to get those little pebbles/stones still as well too I'm super excited though! I've already planted my seedlings in preperation, so hopefully when the net cups arrive I will be good to go in starting! Because it's a smallish tent I got the containers I was hoping for are sadly too big, so I'll be growing less than I anticipated. I'm aiming for 2 cucumber in a deep water culture setup, I got a pump for it. Then I have 2 other tubs which are slightly smaller & I'll be doing kratky style with those & growing lettuce, kale, spinach and broccoli, just to see how they all turn out more than anything to start My aim is to be able to eventually grow enough to have 1 green smoothie per day (1-2 cups spinach, 3-4 florets broccoli or some kale, half a cucumber & some juice or water/lemon juice added for flavour and a more watery texture) It's because of vids like this that I got an interest to want to try but also is whats made me finally just go and do it, even though it costs me a fair bit of money initially lol
